Almost 3 weeks ago, my sister-in-law Ashley was rushed to the hospital. She was suddenly very ill and could not even move her legs. The hospital began treatment for sepsis and DKA. Two days later, she lost consciousness and was placed on a ventilator.

While doctors scrambled to find answers, Ashley also went into severe heart failure. We have been urgently praying for recovery of her body and heart. It has been a roller coaster these last few weeks, with multiple intubations and procedures. She is now facing a tracheostomy, and the only place that will be able to care for her and do pulmonary rehab is over 2 hours away from them in Charleston, SC.

Our parents had flown out to Myrtle Beach to help, but Ashley is now facing a long recovery period. Brett will have to drive 5 hours round trip to see her if she is transferred, and their 11-year-old special needs daughter needs care as well. He will be hitting their out-of-pocket max on medical insurance, and will also have travel and hotel costs, as well as have to pay for a sitter.
