I have known (and loved) Nancy Faust and her daughter, Ashley, for more than 20 years. As a friend of the family, I am starting this page. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE STORY, AND CONSIDER HELPING THIS FAMILY IN NEED!
In 2018, Nancy had a major stroke that incapacitated her, leaving her paralyzed on the left side and on a long road to recovery. Her daughter, Ashley, became her primary caregiver, which expanded to a full-time responsibility over the following years. Nancy was committed to her recovery, and did the painful and tedious PT, along with other therapies, as part of her medical recovery plan. Her hard work, however, was met with setback after setback. Additional strokes in 2021 and 2023, a serious fall in the hospital, and other terrible experiences at different rehabilitation facilities, all added to the medical challenges making recovery more difficult. Eventually Nancy was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Life was a daily struggle to make ends meet and continue with her health care. Then, on July 7th 2023, Nancy & Ashley’s house burned to the ground in a terrible fire. In a matter of minutes, literally everything they owned was lost in the flames, and the house they had lived in for more than 20 years was gone. All they had left were the clothes they were wearing. They stayed with friends initially for emergency shelter, and then finally moved into a temporary rental while their house was being rebuilt through insurance. But it was a long and grueling process to reconstruct all that was lost, complete the endless paperwork to get things going, and then oversee the reconstruction project, including working directly with contractors. Not to mention equipping a temporary home with basic essentials, particularly for critical caregiving. And, of course, the 24/7 care being provided. The insurance company has been difficult to deal with, and Ashley has had to fight for everything they are entitled to under the home insurance coverage, with no financial relief from insurance provided. But Ashley’s tenacity finally got some results. Two long years later, the newly rebuilt house was completed, and Nancy and Ashley moved back home earlier this month (July 2025), just a couple of weeks ago. They still wait for any final check from the insurance company, which will barely cover the cost of the reconstruction and other out-of-pocket expenses they have incurred. The financial impact of Nancy’s medical conditions, the loss of their house and all that was in it, and the general stress of everything took its toll on Nancy, and Ashley too. The past six months have been especially difficult, as Nancy slipped further into complications resulting from her previous strokes and the dementia. Hospice was eventually involved, and has been actively working with Ashley to provide periodic support. For Ashley, it has been an endless and exhausting effort to provide the best 24/7 care for her Mom. And she has done that and more against all odds, with amazing love, compassion and patience. Sadly, yesterday morning, July 30, 2025, Nancy passed away after Ashley found her non-responsive at home. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but despite every effort the medical team could not revive her, determining a natural death. Ashley is now faced with the loss of her Mom, medical bills, a house that she is struggling to hold on to, and funeral [cremation] expenses that she has no way of covering. There was no life insurance or savings to draw from. PLEASE, if you knew and loved Nancy (as so many did!), or even if you didn’t, consider donating so that we can give Ashely the resources she needs right now. Neither Nancy or Ashley would ever dream of asking for help, although over the years they have generously helped many, many people. These two ladies have been through more grief and loss than most folks ever experience, and we are hoping to bring a little bit of comfort and relief for Ashley in the form of financial assistance, which is critically needed right now. And, we can honor Nancy too, by helping out. It’s what she would do. Please help with a donation. Any amount will be a blessing. Thank you for considering this worthy and deserving family.
