After a total abdominal colectomy with illorectal anastomosis, I woke up in unimaginable pain. The surgery left me with two severed nerves, making me disabled and bedridden. My days are spent at home, moving between the couch and the floor, searching for any position that brings relief. I rely on ice packs around the clock, heavy narcotics, nerve pain medications, and additional treatments just to manage basic bodily functions. Despite seeking multiple opinions—including a highly recommended specialist at Dartmouth and the Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Albany Medical Center—my condition has only grown more complex. I was a paramedic, dedicated to helping others, but now I am unable to work and have exhausted my savings trying to secure disability support after being denied the first time.
My only hope now lies with Dr. Oren Michaeli a surgeon that treats patients in NYC and NJ, a physician renowned for his expertise in treating severe nerve damage. He only offers surgery after all other options have been tried, and he believes he can remove the damaged nerves to restore some quality of life. Unfortunately, this surgery must be paid for out of pocket. I have no living family left and after a year of constant pain, my husband has left. My greatest wish is to regain enough function to care for my son and daughter, do light housework, and cook for my children. I dream of returning to EMS, the career I loved, and living without constant pain and dependence on medication. Even small improvements would mean the world to me and my family. Your support will help me access the surgery that could give me a second chance at life and independence. Dr Michaeli was kind enough to understand what he needs to try to do, a surgery that has not been done before. I will need help with travel expenses and paying for a necessary surgery to give me hope ❤️
