Hello everyone, my name is Kael Parker and I'm the proud step-dad of Asher Barrows. Last Friday, Asher started feeling sick with eye pain and a fever and was prescribed a couple medications that didn't seem to be working. By Monday evening, he was still not better and he started acting confused and behaving strangely. We took him to the ER, where the doctor became concerned about the possibility of meningitis. After running a few tests, he expressed serious concerns and began a transfer to the Children's Hospital in Denver. Asher and Elissa were flown down to Colorado together Tuesday morning, where they have remained in the pediatric ICU since.
Asher has been battling a Streptococcus Anginosus infection that started in his sinuses, and spread to his blood and brain. On Tuesday, he underwent surgery to drain fluid from his brain and clear his sinuses. A non-occluded blood clot was also discovered in his brain on an MRI.
Asher's team has been incredible in treating him - the bug is identified, his fever is finally under control, he is on the right medications, and he is finally improving. The hospital in general has also been amazing, providing a bed, some meals, and showers for Elissa through this difficult time.
During this time, Elissa cannot work. As much as I would prefer to be in Denver with my family, I need to keep working to meet our financial obligations. We expect Asher's hospital stay to extend at least a couple weeks, which means our family will be losing about half of our income this month.
If you can spare any amount to help support our family with travel expenses, accommodations, food, and bills during this time, it would mean the world to us. If you can't donate now, sharing this link and your healing thoughts and prayers are always appreciated.
Thank you for reading!
