April 20th, I started a new job after being laid off 2 months prior. It was the best first week ever then that Sunday, April 26th, my fiancé was pressure washing the front of the house, and the hose accidentally pulled the gate open just enough for my 2 huskies—Asher and Ember—to slip out.
After a frantic search, I found Ember soaking wet in the middle of the road, but Asher was nowhere to be found. I drove around for over three hours, desperate to find him. Eventually, I turned to Facebook for help and learned that Asher had been hit by a car and left for dead on the side of the road. Thankfully, a compassionate woman sent from God stopped to pick him up and rushed him to BluePearl Emergency Pet Hospital.
At the hospital, Asher’s microchip had migrated, making it difficult to confirm his identity and the hospital, wouldn’t let me see him to confirm identity. After hours of anxiety, I was finally allowed to see the dog they had, and the moment I looked into his eyes, I knew it was Asher. He let out a yelp, and I knew he recognized me too. Asher was in critical condition—he needed to be placed in an oxygen chamber and underwent CT scans, X-rays, and a series of emergency treatments. He even stopped breathing at one point, but the incredible veterinary team was able to revive him. They discovered he had a pneumothorax, so they inserted a chest tube and had to aspirate him every 30 minutes. Once his lungs heal he still faces a long road ahead, including several pelvic fractures and a shattered right hip that will require surgery and extensive therapy.
The costs for Asher’s care has been overwhelming, with over $23,000 in emergency vet bills and surgies. This included covering costs to keep him in the ICU in an oxygen chamber with chest tubes until his lungs healed so then he could have surgery.
We’re not even out of the woods yet with thousands already spent on emergency treatments, surgeries, etc. Now we will have to endure the cost of physical therapy to make sure Asher has full mobility as he heals.
Anyone’s contribution would be so helpful—not only for Asher, but also for Ember. Ember has been staying at my mother‘s so that we can keep them both calm while Asher heals. They have not seen each other since Ember watched Asher get hit by a car. I know their reunion will be the best site to ever see in my lifetime!
These were all expenses we never expected to have and your support would mean the world to our little family. Thank you so much for considering a donation to help Asher heal!❤️
