Asher is a 14-year-old who loves being active. Whether he’s running track or on the basketball court, he’s always pushing himself and doing what he loves most. But what many people don’t see is what’s happening inside his body.
Asher has a condition called pectus excavatum, which causes his chest to sink inward. In his case, it’s severe—and it’s no longer just cosmetic or mild. The pressure from his chest is now compressing his heart, liver, trachea, and esophagus, and has even caused a partial collapse of his left lung. This explains why things that should come easily—like breathing during sports—have become increasingly difficult and exhausting for him.
After consulting with specialists, surgery is no longer optional—it’s necessary. Doctors have recommended corrective surgery (commonly known as the Nuss Procedure) to relieve the pressure on his organs and allow his body to function the way it should.
This is a major, carefully performed procedure. Surgeons place two curved metal bars inside the chest to gently lift the breastbone into a normal position. These bars remain in place for several years to allow his chest to properly reshape as he grows.
Because the surgery involves the chest cavity and vital organs, it is considered complex. It requires general anesthesia, a hospital stay, and close monitoring throughout recovery.
Recovery is not quick or easy. Asher will spend several days in the hospital for pain management and monitoring. The first few weeks at home will require significant rest, limited movement, and support with basic daily activities.
For several months, he will need to avoid intense physical activity—including sports like track and basketball—while his body heals. Full recovery can take months, and the bars will remain in place for a few years before they are removed in a second procedure.
While this journey is intense, it offers something incredibly important—the chance to relieve the pressure on Asher’s heart, lungs, and surrounding organs, allowing his body to function the way it should.
For Asher, this isn’t just about correcting his chest—it’s about restoring his ability to breathe fully, regain his strength, and return to the life and activities he loves.
Unfortunately, they don’t have the best insurance coverage, as they typically do functional care. With that being said, the cost of surgery, hospital stay and recovery is significant.
Every contribution will go directly toward covering his surgery and hospital expenses, travel and recovery costs, and the time needed for healing and care. Your support will help bring Asher closer to healing, to breathing fully again, and to getting back to being the active, determined kid he’s always been.
We especially ask for prayers for Asher as he waits for surgery, undergoes the procedure, and recovers. If you’re able to donate, share, or keep Asher in your prayers, we are deeply grateful. Every bit of support means the world to us. Thank you for praying, loving and supporting Asher and their family during this time.
