Donation protected
We are delighted to announce that Ash has been offered a role in the BYMT theatrical version of the documentary series EDUCATING YORKSHIRE this summer with an opening production at the Square Chapel in Halifax.

Ash will have to spend 17 days away from home in a full board residential setting (3 days in may/June in Hampshire and 14 day stay in Halifax) culminating with a full production musical performance in a theatre, and a Grade 8 qualification in musical theatre production (assessed and certificated by theTrinity college London)

Ash is a lovely 14 year old young person from a low income single parent family who is passionate about taking part in musical theatre and productions.

Ash also has what is classed as High functioning Autism, so sometimes people and the world can seem a scary confusing place,  and they can lack confidence in day to day life around people and situations and peers.

However put them on a stage and they come out of there shell and bloom and are a joy to watch. So having the opportunity to take part in this camp is a massive positive step forward in there personal and educational development.

Even though Ash has Autism themselves they also help out and provide a great deal of support with there sibling who's Autism and ADHD makes them less functional with day to day activities, they also helps out there mum alot who has long-term health issues.

This summer camp will give them the valuable opportunity to just be themselves and not have to worry about other people's health and needs. Whilst gaining qualifications.

The Summer shows are 17 day activity providing intensive, creative training in musical theatre for young people aged 11-17.

They are designed for young people looking to take the next step to explore their potential and develop their acting, singing, movement, writing and instrumental playing abilities.

Participants Work with top theatre professionals and create a brand new show in just a week on these exciting residential projects and also Gain a Grade 8 certificate in Musical Theatre in Production - Trinity College examiners attend every performance to assess the groups achievements

What happens on BYMT Educating Yorkshire Musical Theatre Summer show

• We shall be following the ups and downs of students at a community Academy on their voyage through school life in West Yorkshire. The humour, the angst, the warmth of teenage life in a northern community school comes to life in this new stage musical inspired by the TV series. The music and lyrics are by composer Adam Howell, the book by Paul Hurt and the production is directed by Ellie Jones.

  • We are keen that the young cast will also be contributors to the show, working with the creative team to devise and write material, develop new characters and enjoy the whole process of building a new theatrical work from scratch.

  • The project will be a part of BYMT’s annual programme of eight shows and will be rehearsed during two periods of residential accommodation in West Yorkshire, in the Summer holidays.

• Develop skills in drama, acting, singing, movement, lyric writing and instrumental playing

• Work with a professional artistic team - we only employ experienced working theatre professionals to deliver these courses

• Boost your confidence, self-esteem and teamwork - social skills you'll use everyday and forever

• Gain a Grade 8 certificate in Musical Theatre in Production - Trinity College examiners attend every performance to assess the groups achievements

• Contribute to Arts Award or Duke of Edinburgh Award - build our Summer Camps into your other award schemes to build your portfolio

• Make friends with like-minded people from different backgrounds - and stay in touch for years into the future

• Stay away from home in university or boarding school - we provide plenty of food and 24-hour pastoral care!

Even though the course and production is partly funded by the arts Council we still need to pay for the food, accommodation and pastoral care component of the course.

We are hoping to raise funds to help towards the remaining basic fees/train fare and toward the necessary split sole dance trainers required footwear.

So any help towards the remaining would be a huge help.

If we are fortunate to go over the basic amount we need to achieve this, we will donate any extra to the BYMT fund raising scheme to help another young person who comes from a low income family be able to take part in the future.
