Hi, I’m Ashford.
Every day, I live with the weight of CPTSD, OCD, autism, bipolar disorder, and POTS. Some days I dissociate so deeply I lose hours. Most days I can't get out the front door. I can't leave the house alone, and public transport is out of the question. The world often feels overwhelming, unsafe — like it’s built for someone else entirely.
But I’m not giving up.
I’m building something — slowly, with hope and help.
A psychiatric service dog would be life-changing for me. They could interrupt my OCD spirals and harmful behaviors, ground me during dissociation or flashbacks, alert me to panic attacks, help create space in crowds, and offer deep pressure and comfort during meltdowns or sensory overloads. Having that kind of support would mean the difference between feeling trapped and starting to breathe again.
And brings recovery closer to me and finding ways to feel safe in my body and the world again — with the help of a service dog, consistent support, and creative work that gives me a reason to stay. Unfortunately Service dogs cost around $20,000 - $22,000 on average, which for someone who is unable to work or study feels like a dream.
