Help Aseel fund her educational tent

Hey everyone, my name is Simcha from Amsterdam, NL and I am fundraising to help my friend Aseel Salama (24) who is currently in Al-Mawasi, in the heavily besieged Gaza strip. (Read more about Aseel below)

Aseel is a teacher and has been teaching English to children in the displacement camps in Gaza. For these children it is vital that they are distracted from the horror around them, that some sense of normalcy is maintained and that they can be feel like a child again. Even if it's just for a while.

This fundraiser is meant to help Aseel fund a big tent that she can use as a space for her English classes and for materials that she can use during the lessons. A personal message from Aseel:

My name is Aseel Salama, I am a 24-year-old writer and educator from Gaza. I studied English Literature at Al-Aqsa University, and today I live with my family in a tent in Al-Mawasi after being displaced.

Even in these harsh conditions, I dedicate myself to working with children and young people. Together, we read stories, write, and draw. These moments are not only for them — they are also for me. I escape from my own tent to spend time with them, because their laughter, their words, and their creativity give me hope and remind me that I still have value. As much as I try to bring them joy, they also heal me.

One child once told me: “Many organizations visited us, but no one ever asked us to write what is inside us, like you did.” Their trust and honesty are the reason I dream of building a small educational tent — a place where children can learn English, express themselves, and find light in the darkest times.

In our sessions, we transform the tent into a white cloud in a sky that no longer knows bombing. This is the magic the children create when they feel safe enough to dream.
