Hello, my name is Asaria Miller, and I'm humbly asking for your help as I take my first independent steps after nearly 13 years of incarceration.
At just 16 years old, I was sentenced to 30 years in prison. This past year, at age 29, I was released under partial confinement and have been working hard every day to rebuild my life from the ground up. Despite the many challenges I’ve faced, I’ve remained focused on my goals and deeply committed to turning my life around.
While incarcerated, I earned my high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree. I’m currently taking online courses to finish my prerequisites, and this fall I will begin my Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Washington Tacoma. My dream is to help others navigate the same systems I once had to survive, and to be a source of hope and support for those often forgotten.
I had a job after my release and worked hard to stay afloat, but a recent move forced me to give up that position. I relocated because the environment I was in had become toxic and unsafe. I had no choice but to prioritize my mental health, my future, and my safety. I now live in a small studio in Olympia, WA—secured through the kindness of a landlord who believed in my story and chose to give me a chance. This move was unexpected and came with financial strain I wasn’t prepared for.
Now, I’m asking for help covering $2,500 in basic living expenses—just enough to get through this gap period until I begin college and secure steady employment. I am actively applying for work now that I’m settled, and I’m open to any opportunity that allows me to pay my way forward.
If you’ve ever been in a hard spot—or believe in second chances—I hope, you’ll consider donating or sharing this campaign. I am not someone who takes this support for granted. I give freely and openly to others, even when I have little myself, and I fully intend to pay forward the generosity shown to me.
Thank you for seeing me. Thank you for believing in my journey.
With deep gratitude,
Asaria Miller
