Help Asad Shaikh’s Urgent Brain Surgery and Recovery

This is Asad Shaikh, a loving and hardworking husband, father, and uncle. Loved and known by many from across the globe. These past 6 months, Asad has been experiencing extreme nausea, blurred vision, and high blood pressure. Many doctor visits and medications later, we weren’t able to pinpoint exactly what is causing these symptoms. Until this weekend. Neurologists were able to find out through a CT scan, Asad has a 6cm or 2in tumor attached to the back right side of his brain. Thankfully, the tumor is benign, though it needs to be removed immediately. The neurologist at St. David’s Medical Center here in Round Rock stated he is unable to perform the operation due to the placement of the tumor. He stated we MUST travel up north to Chicago to have Asad undergo surgery with the best neurosurgeon there is. The surgeon there will remove the majority of the tumor, though Asad will also have to go through several rounds of radiation therapy to fully remove the tumor. This is because the tumor has several blood vessels and nerves running through it. Any mistakes during the procedure will potentially result in lifelong changes such as loss of movement or tongue control. The recovery time after the procedure depends on how the surgery goes, though tampering with the brain does guarantee it will be several months before Asad can go back to his normal.

If you know Asad, you know that he is the biggest jokester there is. Even while in the care of St. David’s, he asked for nurses to refer to him as “Asad the Great” and that is the best way to describe him. He has such an amazing soul and still has so much life to live; his biggest dream is to be able to see his grandchildren.
