Our beautiful daughter Arwen was diagnosed in 2022 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After three months inpatient at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, she underwent a grueling bone marrow transplant and months of recovery and years of revaccination. Cancer-free since 2023, she has been regaining her strength, regrowing her hair, and living a normal life as a high school student.
Unexpectedly, the leukemia returned. We do not know exactly when it happened, but we found out in June 2025. This means another bone marrow transplant and the start of another long road. She was nearly at the end of her first road, and would have been officially declared a survivor in February.
We are looking at a long, difficult process. After her bone marrow transplant, she will be weak and without an immune system. She will have no vaccines left in her body and will not be allowed to go anywhere for at least 3 months. She will be allowed to go to school after several months, but in a mask for about a year. She will begin getting her vaccinations about 6 months after transplant.
While she is in her restricted time, we will need to live within one hour of CHOP. So that means finding a short term apartment. You can see that our needs are great. We appreciate any and all help!
We need help! Both of us will need to take time off of work, and there will be additional expenses we incur as we go back and forth between our home and 3 other daughters, and CHOP, more than an hour away.
Please spread the word and help however you can. Arwen is an exceptional kid-- anybody who knows her will tell you that!
