Arturo had been a part of the Costa Vida/Costa Sur family for over 30 years! He is always behind the reception desk with that huge, contagious smile that lights up his whole face and doesn’t hesitate to come around and give you a BIG hug. He is always ready to help and makes sure any problems are resolved quickly.
On Friday, September 24th, Arturo was found in the reception office at Costa Sur suffering severe seizures. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was still convulsing, and the doctors could not stop the seizures. He was put into an induced coma and put on life support. Today, five days later, he is still unresponsive.
This fundraiser is to raise funds for Arturo’s immediate medical expenses and possible future expenses for rehabilitation, care, and recovery.
Arturo’s wife, Felipa, and son, Alex, have not left his side since his admission.
Arturo is in a public hospital and has been waiting five days for an EEG. Our first goal is to pay a private provider to come to the hospital and do the EEG. Depending on the outcome of the EEG and the amount of funding received, the next goal is to transfer him to a private hospital where they will provide him with the care he requires. The public hospitals are so overwhelmed with patients that the care is subpar and access to medical equipment, testing equipment, lab results, specialists, etc., is very limited. In a private hospital, he will have access to everything he needs for a prompt diagnosis, excellent medical care, and prompt recovery.
An additional goal is the family car. Yesterday, their only car broke down right in front of the hospital. I am having a mechanic look at it later today, Wednesday. Hopefully, we can raise enough money to fix the car too.
Once Arturo is in a private hospital and the car is fixed, we should have a better picture of the cost of future expenses for rehabilitation, care, and recovery. I will keep you updated as to what his immediate needs are.
Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated. Just a few dollars exchanged into pesos go a long way. No amount is too small. quickly.
