What makes an artist so passionate? The answer? Having something to believe in. Youth of the Creative Revolution is a short film documenting the rise of creativity in collegiate spaces and an organization's goal of leaving their community better than they found it.
The film follows the creation of Artivism, a a creative production company, a cultural platform, a collegiate landmark, and a community movement fighting for social change.
Its founders, Joshua Hughes and Isaac Alicea, along with the rest of Artivism's members, will be leading the story as they recount their struggles and successes in creating a creative social justice organizations.
Their mission is to increase the production of positive artistic expression while creating real, sustainable opportunities for creatives to turn their ideas into income.
From Joshua and Isaac's childhood up to their success as young entrepreneurs, the documentary will showcase Artivism in its element as the centerpiece of vibrant music and art in Washington, DC, featuring interviews with the organization's leaders and participants, and D.C.’s deep-rooted history of systemic silencing and disenfranchisement of black people.
This documentary aims to encourage Black and Brown youth to speak out for their community and to express themselves despite being stuck in spaces that limit their opportunities.
I chose to tell this story because this is what our community needs.
A friend brought this opportunity to me one day to tell a story about Artivism, one of the most well-known organizations on my university's campus. As a young filmmaker and an emerging businessman, I agreed, seeing this as a professional opportunity.
However, through further research, I learned that this organization uses its art to bring people together; an organization that believes in and upholds cultural preservation. The more I learned about them, the more passionate I became about telling this story and what this organization stands for. Learning about young artists who use their creative expression to address issues in broader social systems inspires me to uphold higher norms and encourages me to support our local communities.
We are planning to film this documentary VERY soon, and we need your help to do it! We’re raising $3,500 USD for production, which will directly support the costs of gear rentals, filming locations, and festival fees. We may not be asking for a lot, but we still need your help.
Beyond financials, we are open to any venue space, production resources, special industry connections, or even an extra set of hands. Having our community be there to support this documentary truly means a lot to us, and creating this space for investment helps us give back! We would love to collaborate with you in bringing this project to life, so reach out!
