Help artist Nils going to Florence Academy of Art

Donation protected
I am a traditional artist that has been accepted at the Florence Academy of Art, one of the most prestigious art academies in the world. Studying there would enable me to learn the traditional methods of the old masters, methods that I feel deeply connected to and that inspire me continuously. Methods that I want to help keep alive. This is where I need your help. I don’t have the money that I need to attend this year in Florence.

My name is Nils Hadamovsky. My passion lies in capturing a moment to its fullest, with all of the emotions of that moment. I mostly work with oil paint and pencil. Below are three art pieces that I have produced in the last three years. You can see that there has been some marked progress in my skills over the last three years.
You will find my artist statement down below.

In addition to studying at the Academy in Florence I wish to give  workshops in order to share inspiration with as many people as possible. I believe the techniques and approach of the old masters still have so much value in today’s world. In an ever-growing digital world, it is important to remember where we come from, to see people captured in a different way, with more emotions and in a manner that is probably more real than the way we do every day on social media.

Further down the line I also  plan to start a foundation that supports young artists like me, and to organise exhibitions.

You can also commission me to paint something and get something back for your generosity.

I also have an online shop where you can buy some of my art. My shop

It would also greatly support me if you can send this to people that might be interested.

My artist statement.

Not the classic one but classic.
Let’s get started.
Art is the only way for me to truly express all my emotions, love or hate.
I mostly work with the human figure, the human figure is a pure expression of emotion for me. Painting someone is like trying to see their soul. To try to see what they really feel. To get a glimpse of their true self. I want to capture that feeling. The hidden parts we all have, that deep desire in humans that we all know too well but don't know how to express. Capturing this is a hard task that might take my whole life. What is driving me are the emotions I feel for the people I paint and the desire to capture them. It’s the conversation between them and what I feel for them.

I try to achieve this through painting and drawing, in the style of the old masters. I look at famous painters like Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer to study their style and approach. What I learned from them is how colours can invoke emotions, the play between light and shadows can change the mood of a painting. I also learned that composition can change the whole dynamic of a painting, it can make a painting seem powerful or fragile depending on where you place things. This inspiration and knowledge give me the tools to represent emotions in people the way I want. I use a traditional painting technique of layering paint to create a sense of depth. I also use light and shadows to create a sense of three-dimensionality.

Let me walk you through my painting process.
The first step for me is to cover my canvas with a thin layer of brown, this is because pure white exists rarely in nature and if I would paint on a white canvas everything would seem too dark in contrast to the pure white. My next step is to sketch with white on my canvas, in this part, I mark where the light and dark areas are. By applying the white on the brown it gives me a natural grey.
The next thing is to apply the first layer of skin tones. When the first layer is dry I will add a second layer for the highlights and the darkest darks. The last step is the background which is important to set the mood for the whole painting.

This is only the beginning of my journey and I am excited for what is to come.
