Artillery's Summer Print Edition Production Costs

Artillery is LA's longest running art magazine, a pillar of art journalism in the contemporary art scene in California.  It is a respected, much-loved independent voice that promotes Los Angeles galleries, museums, art spaces, artists-LA's thriving, unique art scene.



It is a publication so needed in today's America. For the first time in Artillery's history, the May June 2020 print issue was cancelled due to the financial hardship caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, we can't let another print issue not  be produced. We are determined to not have a 4 month gap in Artillery 's print edition.
Our writers need the community's support and the LA art world must be covered. Everyone -art lovers, galleries, museums, curators, and collectors- deserve to have consistent, quality art journalism all over LA, as it has been for almost 15 years . 



We are cutting costs heavily, so our goal is to print a lean magazine- cheap stock paper, no bells and whistles. The funds will be used for writers, editors, copy editors, proofers, designers, and distribution. 
The Editor in Chief and Publisher are forgoing salaries and writers have agreed to work for a reduced wage. 



This $8,000 total is the bare minimum of our costs, so if we exceed our $8,000 goal, the extra funds will cover much-needed essential expenses.

The breakdown:

-$5,000 printing costs
-$3,000 will go to writers, proofers, writers, editors, and designing the magazine. 



We deeply appreciate your loyalty over the years. This is more than a magazine, it is one of the ways the art community will say, "We are still here." We know how important the arts are  in our day-to-day and spiritual lives, AND in preserving LA's dominance as a world cultural hub.  Honest art journalism is the gluten of any thriving art epicenter. 
We have to keep it going no matter what.
