Arthur, my mini donkey, has always been a beloved part of our farm and family. On Wednesday, May 27, he began showing signs of colic, and we immediately called our farm vet. At first, the vet thought Arthur didn’t need to be tubed or given fluids, but when he didn’t improve the next day, the vet returned and suspected ulcers, starting treatment for that instead. By Friday morning, I noticed a very smelly liquid coming from Arthur’s nose. Our vet recommended we take him to Piedmont Equine in The Plains, Virginia, so we did. Arthur is extremely sick, and it turns out he has severe colic. His stomach was drained and continues to be drained, and he was so dehydrated that there are concerns about kidney damage. He’s receiving fluids, antibiotics, and ongoing stomach drainage to help him recover.
The costs for Arthur’s care are quickly adding up, and funds raised will go directly toward his extensive vet bills while he receives treatment at Piedmont Equine. This includes medications, fluids, and ongoing monitoring to give him the best possible chance to recover. Arthur means so much to us, and we are doing everything we can to help him fight through this difficult time.
Anything to help with Arthur’s care is greatly appreciated. I never thought this would happen to him, but here we are, and I just want to do what is best for him to give him the best possible chance to fight. Your support means the world to us and to Arthur.
