Help Arthur Fight Brain Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Aiken, writing this from California — 14 hours and 7,000+ miles away from my dad, Arthur, who lives in Taiwan and was just diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive and terminal brain cancer, five days after his 63rd birthday. Please help us raise money for vital treatment.
My Dad's Story
My dad has always been a strong, hardworking man who put our family first. He never got the chance to retire because years ago, we were swindled out of a large sum of money and lost our home. It was one of the hardest times in our lives, but he kept going—for us. Now, after years of rebuilding, he’s finally found stability again. Last year, his biggest wish came true when I had my baby—his first grandchild—and we were all overjoyed.
Then 3 months ago, he started experiencing loss of coordination in his right hand. Then followed by a seizure then loss of balance. Eventually, he can't even stand on his own. They rushed him to the emergency room, terrified and unsure of what was happening. Days later, we received the diagnosis we never imagined: Grade IV glioblastoma — a highly aggressive and rare cancer.
Doctors found two tumors in my dad’s left parietal lobe—one 1cm and the other 3cm. He underwent urgent brain surgery at Taiwan Adventist Hospital, where, by God’s grace, a skilled team successfully removed the larger tumor. He’s now started the standard six-week course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Taipei Medical University Hospital.
The doctors gave him 18 to 20 months—but that’s just not enough. After everything he’s been through, my dad is only now beginning to live a comfortable, stable life. He’s the man who raised me, supported me unconditionally, and shaped everything I am. He’s been the best father, a devoted husband, and the heart of our family. We just want more time with him — time to fight, to hope, to live.
Why I'm Fundraising
Glioblastoma is extremely aggressive and often returns, even after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Standard treatment hasn’t changed much in over 20 years, which is why I’ve been tirelessly researching innovative options that could give my dad more time and a better quality of life.
The good news is, some patients are living with stable tumors and leading full, meaningful lives—and that gives us hope.
Promising treatments do exist — but they aren’t available or covered where my dad lives. Many are only offered in specialized clinics abroad, and most come at significant out-of-pocket cost.
Promising Options We’re Exploring:
- Proton Therapy: A precise form of radiation that uses proton beams to target tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue, making it especially valuable for brain cancers like glioblastoma. (We are already starting this treatment combined with chemotherapy - not covered by insurance)
- Tumor Treating Fields (TTF): This therapy uses low-intensity, alternating electric fields to disrupt the division of cancer cells. It has been clinically proven to extend survival in glioblastoma patients. The treatment involves wearing a device with adhesive pads on the scalp, connected to a portable battery pack, typically for around 20 hours a day. TTF is a standard treatment in the U.S. and Germany, though not yet widely available through the NHS and insurance.
- Dendritic Cell Vaccine Therapy: A personalized form of immunotherapy that uses the patient’s own immune cells (dendritic cells) to train the immune system to recognize and attack glioblastoma cells. While still considered investigational in many countries, this therapy shows growing promise, particularly in Germany, where it is more commonly offered as part of individualized cancer treatment plans and is available in Japan.
I'm still waiting for formal quotes, specifically for the Dendritic Cell Vaccine. I’ll update this page regularly with any developments and will be fully transparent about how funds are used.
Estimated Costs for Initial Treatment
- Proton Therapy + Chemo: $40,000-$50,000 USD
- Tumor Treating Fields (TTF) – $13,000-$15,000/month, typically for 12 months. Total: $156,000-$180,000
- Dendritic Cell Vaccine (DCVax-L) : TBD (approx: $50,000-$150,000)
Total Estimate: $209,000–$395,000
Additional/Future Possible Treatment (if necessary):
- aNK Cell Therapy (available only in the US) incl. bevacizumab (Avastin): $380,000 USD total for 76 weeks
- CAR-T Cell Therapy (available in US and China): $1,000,000+ USD
- Ongoing monitoring, scans, and support care: $58,000-$60,000 USD
With the support of friends and family, we are covering what we can, but the reality is, we can’t do this without your help.
How You Can Help
If you’re able to give—no matter how small—it would mean everything to us. Every dollar brings us one step closer to giving my dad more time and closer to life-extending treatments.
And if you can’t donate, simply sharing this page would mean just as much. It will help give my dad more moments to hold his grandchild, to laugh with us, and a chance to fight this disease with every tool possible.
Your kindness, in any form, gives us strength and keeps our hopes alive.
THANK YOU
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read, share, and walk alongside us in this journey.
With love and gratitude,
