Art Trull and Bobby Chesterfield have faced more than their share of challenges, but nothing could have prepared them for the house fire that struck their 50-year-old mobile home. Art, who lives with mental disabilities and is in recovery with five years of sobriety, was at a counselor’s visit when the fire broke out. Bobby, born with only one leg and using crutches to get around, was home in the kitchen when the fire started. Thankfully, he was able to escape, but the back bedroom, entryway, door, and the handicap ramp were destroyed. For years, they’ve managed without heat or air conditioning, making their living situation even more difficult.
Right now, Art and Bobby are staying in a motel in downtown Chandler, thanks to the Red Cross, but that support will only last a few more days. With no family to turn to, they’re relying on the kindness of their community. Their most urgent needs are repairs to their home, including carpenter or metal siding work, a new back door, and a replacement handicap ramp so Bobby can safely enter and exit the house.
Despite everything, Art is known for his constant smile and willingness to help others, and Bobby’s determination has helped him overcome obstacles his entire life. They’ve always given what they could, and now they need help to rebuild and return to a safe, stable home. Your support will go directly toward making their home livable again and giving them hope for the future.
