Hi, my name is Mia and I’m writing this on behalf of my best friend Becca (or Bex) and her sweet dog, Arrow.

Last night, something terrifying happened that none of us were prepared for. Bex and I were playing tug-of-war with Arrow (and his brother Toast). Suddenly, he let out a choking sound and collapsed. His breathing became very shallow and he was unable to get up, walk around, or even just sit up. We noticed his eyes were starting to move about rapidly, and we immediately made our way to the emergency vet.

Arrow was experiencing neck movements and lost control of his bowels on the way to the vet, and the drive was absolutely terrifying for us.

After a full examination and imaging, we were told the devastating news: there’s fluid around Arrow’s heart. The vet told us we can either pay a fee of 6k, or choose the unthinkable. We scrambled together the money for the vet to be able to perform his life saving emergency procedures. The Update that came today: Arrow has a tear in his little heart, with only about a year of expected life left. This leaves a huge amount of unexpected debt for Bex, and we will now provide him the most stress-free low-impact, love filled rest of his time here with us. 

Becca is doing everything she can for Arrow, but even emergency funds could not have prepared for this. Bex has recently been laid off from her job as a caretaker and manager for adults with disabilities, so this financial strain truly has come at the worst timing. That’s why I’m turning to our community, fellow animal lovers, and kind strangers for help. If you know Bex, you know the kind, loving, and caring individual she is. It hurts my heart to see her worrying about the life of her sweet fur-baby, and even if we can only ease the financial strain, it would make a huge difference.

Arrow means so much to all of us. He’s Becca’s shadow, her emotional support, her family. He’s full of energy and curiosity, and his brother Toast is already concerned that Arrow didn‘t come home last night. Watching Arrow like this, scared and struggling to breathe, has been terrifying for all of us, and it‘s going to be a long journey ahead for Becca especially.
