On January 5th, 2026, at approx. 1:15 pm, my father-in-law Arnulfo was struck by a truck while riding his ebike scooter on the sidewalk. The driver did not stop; it was a hit-in-run incident. The police have closed the case without any suspects.

Arnulfo has sustained many injuries. He had a brain hemorrhage, a fractured left side of his face and jaw. His nose was broken. He also had a hole in his lung.

Arnulfo had to get an emergency brain surgery and had to get a tracheostomy after a week in the ICU. At this time, he is still in the ICU. He is waiting to transfer to a Long Term Medical Care facility. The case worker informed us that his Medicare insurance will not likely pay for all the expenses to take care of his medical needs because he lives in another state.

Arnulfo was visiting with us for the holidays. Arnulfo usually stays with us for three months. He was going to go back home in two weeks before he was hit by the truck.

Arnulfo was a strong man and full of life. It saddens our family to see him so fragile now. He would walk or ride his bicycle and ride his ebike scooter everywhere. He loved being outdoors. So we know he needs this long term care to succeed.
