Dear All,
This is Luis and Erica. I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to share a challenging situation that my family is currently facing. While I understand that we all encounter our own struggles, I feel compelled to set aside my pride and seek assistance for my twin sons, who are both disabled and facing significant challenges due to their autism.
About a year and a half ago, we noticed that both boys began to exhibit cross-eyed symptoms. After consulting with an eye specialist, they were diagnosed with severe strabismus, a condition that misaligns the eyes. The recommended treatment involved daily eye drops and glasses, which has proven difficult, as they are unable to keep the glasses on. This treatment was intended to strengthen their eye muscles in preparation for surgery; however, after extensive efforts, only our son Arminius has shown progress, qualifying him for surgery, while Octavius will continue with the treatment in hopes of qualifying soon.
The surgery for Arminius aims to correct his vision, but unfortunately, we learned that our insurance will not cover the costs. Consequently, we sought a specialist in Houston, Texas, who evaluated Arminius and recommended surgery on both eyes due to the severity of his condition. This requires multiple trips to Houston, creating additional logistical challenges.
In light of these circumstances, my partner Erica has transitioned to part-time work to provide necessary support for our sons, while I continue to work full-time to maintain our financial stability. The urgency of their situation, coupled with the risk of potential legal blindness, has taken a considerable emotional and financial toll on our family.
To address the financial burden of Arminius's surgery, we have created a GoFundMe campaign to seek donations. We are not expecting large contributions; even a small amount can make a significant difference in helping us reach our goal. If you are unable to contribute financially, we would greatly appreciate any emotional support you can offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and for your kindness and understanding during this difficult time.
Warm regards,
The Cabrera Family
