Last night something really heartbreaking happened in our neighborhood, & I’m hoping our community might be able to help. My neighbor Nathan’s dog, Arlo, was hit by a car. Arlo is an 11-year-old pit mix & truly the sweetest boy. He was sniffing his mailbox at 8:25 pm with his back end hanging slightly in the road, when a person in a black SUV, not paying attention on their phone clipped Arlo's back, right end. To make matters worse, they didn't even stop. They just sped off. When we heard the screaming we ran outside & found him lying in the road screaming in agonizing pain in a pull of blood and urine. Neighbors all the way down the road heard & rushed down to help. 6 of us were able to carefully get him onto a blanket & rushed him to the nearest emergency vet. Nathan tried everything he could to help his dog, even getting bitten badly on the hand while trying to move him. Unfortunately the emergency vet would not offer a payment plan & Nathan simply doesn’t have the financial resources for the imaging & treatment Arlo needs. Nathan is a disabled veteran & single father raising his 8-year-old son after losing his wife to cardiac arrest just over 2 years ago. They have already been through more than most families should have to endure, & Arlo has been a constant source of comfort & love for them through it all. The vet believes Arlo likely has a fractured or dislocated pelvis, but without imaging they can’t confirm the extent of the injury or determine the best treatment plan. The money Nathan had in his account went towards pain meds & basic ER care, but it wasn’t enough for diagnostics or further treatment. We’re hoping to raise funds to help cover X-rays/diagnostics, veterinary treatment & follow-up care, pain management & recovery support. Every dollar raised will go toward Arlo’s veterinary care, & we'll post receipts & updates for full transparency. If there are any funds leftover after Arlo’s care, they'll be donated to the Humane Society of Johnson County & we'll provide proof of that as well. If you’re able to donate, even a small amount could make a real difference for Arlo. If donating isn’t possible, sharing this page would mean just as much. Thank you for taking the time to read Arlo’s story.
