Today we got some devastating news pertaining to Aries. I'm completely at a loss and heartbroken. Im hoping and praying we could get the word out to be able to help him. The internal medicine vet said she would like to do a CT scan to see if it's either portosystemic shunts or hepatic arteriovenous fistula.
Our choices are to do a 2k CT with contrast and find out what the issue exactly is and get surgery or continue diarrhetics and another med to make him comfortable. If we just make him comfortable, his prognosis is a few months.
The fluid could compress his lungs or his heart and cause him a painful death. The fluid has been building up faster and has went from 6 lbs or so every few weeks to 7-10 lbs a week being taken out.
The options discussed were:
1. CT angiogram for a definitive diagnosis
2. Protein C testing to further test liver function (it is odd for the bile acids to be only moderately elevated; typical shunts have a very high bile acid ~ over 100) This test would be performed at Cornell.
3. Medical management to try to keep him comfortable.
This isn't fair. He does not deserve this whatsoever. I wish I could make this all go away but unfortunately I can't. We have poured so much money into him just in the few months we've had him and we can't do it anymore. I just hope and pray that once I get the word out, everyone could donate just a $1 or share so we can get our sweet baby the help he deserves.
