In November of 2023, my father was hit by a truck while walking home from work, which changed our lives forever. He spent four months in the ICU, including two weeks in a coma, and has been in rehabilitation for a year. The accident left him with serious injuries to his right leg, both shoulders, and blindness in his right eye. My father is now disabled and unable to work, and the process of getting disability support has been long and uncertain. During his hospitalization and recovery, my mother has worked tirelessly to keep our home and support me as I pursue my Bachelor’s degree in psychology. Our household went from two incomes to one, and we have struggled to keep up with bills and basic needs. Right now, we have no heat, no WiFi, and our fridge is often empty. My mother’s income only covers the mortgage, light bill, and phone bill, leaving us behind on everything else. We are only able to buy certain foods, and it’s been difficult to keep up hope as the challenges continue to pile up. I am doing my best to support my parents, but we need help to get through this. The funds raised will go directly toward medical bills, restoring heat and warm water to our home, and making sure we have enough food and essentials.
