My name is Ariel, and I am reaching out for help as I work to rebuild my life after experiencing domestic violence. Just two days before Christmas, my boyfriend became violently drunk and assaulted me—punching, choking, and even pulling out a gun. The police responded quickly and arrested him, and this time he is facing a felony and multiple misdemeanors. This was the third time he has been violent toward me (Craig PD were involved all three times) and I know I cannot stay in this situation any longer.
Living on a small island in Alaska, I have always felt a bit like an outsider, but the kindness and friendship I’ve received here have meant the world to me. Unfortunately, I am not on the lease for my home, and my landlord is evicting my (now ex-) boyfriend. For my safety, I have decided to move in with my grandmother in Kentucky and start fresh. The cost of a plane ticket and travel, replacing basic amenities that were ruined, and getting my phone fixed and disconnected from his network are all expenses I need help with so I can begin job searching as soon as I arrive. While there are some local programs for domestic violence survivors, I am not sure they will be able to cover all of these expenses.
I am deeply grateful for the support and kindness I’ve received from this community. Any amount of support helps me take these first steps toward safety and independence. Once I am back on my feet, I promise to pay this forward. Thank you for helping me find hope and a new beginning. I love each and every one of you.
