Help Arianny's family recover from burns and loss

Donation protected
When my niece Arianny awoke early last Wednesday morning to cook for her family of five there was an explosion, engulfing her in flames. The apartment walls burst, and her entire family was also severely burned.

Arianny’s husband Yorger bravely carried his wife and then each of the three children out of the home and away from the fire. Arianny had burns on 70% of her body. Along with her baby who was also severely burned, she was airlifted from the Chiclayo Peru – to where they had migrated from Venezuela - to the capital of Lima. The baby was taken to the ICU at the Children’s Hospital and Arianny to another hospital. Perhaps that brought comfort to Arianny who soon after passed away after a valiant struggle.

Baby Said Gabriel (9 mo) has third degree burns on 19% of his small body and is receiving treatment and dialysis. But he is a fighter and there is hope he will survive. His father Yorger is also severely burned on much of his body and faces a long battle ahead. Sebastian (11) was burned on his back and arm and was just released from the hospital to join sister Sofia (9) who is also receiving care for her burns at a local dispensary.

Family, Peruvian neighbors and the Venezuelan immigrant community in Peru have been extremely supportive, keeping vigil and collecting funds for immediate needs. But the road ahead to recovery is a long one, both to heal their burns and re-start their lives. All of their possessions were burned, and it will be a long road ahead before Yorger can work again.

The funds that we gather here will be used for immediate medical needs for both baby Said and Yorger who remain hospitalized. As time goes forward, they will have many needs in their rehabilitation journey and in the process of rebuilding their lives. But right now our focus is on their recovery.

I have been so moved by the strength and faith of my nephew Yorger who, in the face of so much pain and loss keeps my own spirits lifted on our daily conversations. I am unable to travel to Peru because of my own immigration situation, and that is so hard. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers and solidarity.
Abrazos, Ledys
