On Tuesday evening, Arianna (my mama) was biking home and hit a pothole, which caused her to fly over the handlebars and when she hit the pavement, she was knocked out. Someone passing by, saw her lying on the ground unconscious and called 911. Paramedics showed up and took her to the emergency room.

Trauma unit discovered 3 fractures in her hand, bruising and scrapes on one side of her body, several lacerations (with gravel imbedded) to her face, a concussion, and a subarachnoid hemorrhage (small brain bleed). Given her critical condition, she was admitted to the ICU for close observation.

Several scans, numerous tests, 16 specialists and 19 hours later, Arianna was marked as stable. She was able to return home with strict orders for “around the clock care” for 2 weeks. She is lucky to be alive and recovering in her own home, but the pain is intense and the concussion symptoms daunting.

The doctors are hopeful she will make a full recovery, but it will be a long journey with several follow up visits, physical & occupational therapy, and lots of rest.

During this time of healing and recovery from the trauma of the accident, she is under orders from the doctors not to drive or work. Given that she is self-employed, this will cause severe financial loss on top of all the medical bills resulting from the bicycle accident.
