Help ARHS Track Send Team to Nike Outdoor Nationals!

It’s that time of year again! The Amherst Hurricanes are sending at least ten athletes to Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, OR, and this number can certainly rise as the season continues. The ability to run at competitive meets such as this one, gives our athletes greater opportunities to succeed at the high school level and potentially at the collegiate level. It also shines a better light on Amherst’s skilled track team that currently does not have a functioning track. Opportunities like this one will gain Amherst athletes more attention from scouts and donors that will further their success.

Among this incredibly talented group, Moriah Luetjen (senior), Ololara Baptiste (sophomore), Ruby Austin (senior), and Ella Austin (sophomore) will return to run four relays as well as a few individual events. There are two new additions to the girl’s team: Skylar Fox (senior) who has been a major force in the relays and Claire Fortin (freshman) who will compete in the horizontal jumps as well as the freshman 100m. The girl’s team currently holds three school records (4x100, 4x200, 4x400). Additionally, Luetjen is the defending school record holder for the open 200m and 400m and Fortin holds the school record for triple and long jump.

For the boy’s team, Logan Alfandari will be returning to Eugene for discus and shot put. Alfandari currently holds the shot put school record at 56’ 6.75”. The runners consisting of Miles Jeffries (senior), Tylahn Beckett (senior), Owen Platt (junior), and Nico Lisle (junior) will take on multiple relays including the spring medley in which they are nine seconds faster than the qualifying time. Last but not least, Angel Hernandez will be competing in the para shot put, a major meet expansion to para athletes due to his activism.
