My sister and brother-in-law's 5-year old German Shepherd was struck by a van last Thursday (10/1). He remains in critical care: he has suffered very serious injuries to three of his legs and paws, and his jaw has multiple fractures. Despite the severity of his traumas, after several surgeries his long term prognosis is good. He is expected to make a full recovery with no long-term adverse effects.
However, he is in need of extensive, ongoing veterinary care from the three different veterinary hospitals that are involved in his treatment - the cost of which is exorbitant and understandably, unplanned for. Veterinary care of this magnitude is provided after payment is made, or not provided at all, and in just four days my sister and her husband have already paid more than $10,000 for his care. This makes it difficult for them to access funds fast enough to ensure his continued care without delay.
