Ares is my 3 year old nephew that was born February 22 of 2021. Because of a heart defect, he was flown to UC Davis for emergency heart surgery when he was only one month old. He has been in and out of the hospital since. Despite this difficult challenge, Ares still has a silly and positive spirit. He recently had his 2nd Mitral Valve Replacement surgery which didn’t go as planned and resulted in another emergency open heart surgery. Two days ago Ares coded and needed resuscitation but yesterday he was able to sit up and talk! Although it is unknown how long that he will be in the hospital, Ares Mother Shanel and Father Michael have been right by his side as much as possible. They also have their two other children down in Sacramento with them, an 11-year-old and one who’s only one and a half. This makes it difficult because only two people are allowed in the ICU room at a time. So, they have been taking turns to be by Ares side. The family will spend Christmas and New Years at the hospital. It's been a very rough road for all of them these past few weeks. However, his journey is far from over. The burden of being 3 hours away from home and not being able to work is just another stress. I’m reaching out to our community and family for support.
