Help Arepa Heal: A Tripod Cat’s Fight to Recover

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Alex, and this is Arepa

Arepa is a sweet ~2 years old kitty. After being rescued, he underwent a leg amputation to give him a chance at a pain-free life. I adopted him knowing his journey wouldn’t be easy — but I never imagined how hard his recovery would become.

Following his amputation, Arepa developed serious complications due to poor nutrition prior to rescue. His surgical incision did not heal properly, his skin was extremely fragile, and despite multiple attempts to close the wound, it continued to reopen. During this time, the team at Advanced Veterinary Care Center worked incredibly hard to support him, providing specialized wound care, nutritional support, and repeated efforts to help his incision heal. Unfortunately, even with their dedicated care, his wound remained slow to heal.

For months now, Arepa has required:
  • Frequent bandage changes
  • Weekly pain injections
  • Ongoing veterinary monitoring
  • Specialized wound care

His doctors have told us that healing could take 4–6 months, and even then, progress is uncertain.

Because of the complexity of his case, the specialists at Advanced Veterinary Care Center referred us to the surgery department at Coral Springs Animal Hospital to explore additional treatment options. After evaluation, the veterinary team recommended:

  • Shock wave therapy (to stimulate healing and blood flow)
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (to deliver extra oxygen to damaged tissue and support wound repair)

We have already begun these treatments, starting with 5 hyperbaric sessions, after which his progress will be reassessed.

So far, Arepa’s medical expenses total $3,000, not including the cost of continued care still ahead.

Arepa is still full of life. He is sweet, affectionate, and incredibly resilient. Despite everything his body has been through, he shows us every day that he wants to keep fighting. My partner and I are completely committed to him and will not give up — but the cost of ongoing specialty care has become overwhelming.

Funds raised will go directly toward:
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions (~$200 per session )
  • Shock wave therapy ($340 per sessions)
  • Wound care supplies and bandaging (~100)
  • Pain management (~$20 per medication)
  • Follow-up veterinary visits

To follow Arepa’s healing journey, see regular updates, and learn more about his story, you can find him on Instagram at @Arepa3paws.

Any amount helps, and sharing this fundraiser means just as much. Thank you for taking the time to read Arepa’s story and for supporting a little cat who refuses to give up
