UPDATE: With broken hearts, we want to share that late last night, as we were on our way to see him, we received the call no pet parent ever wants to get. Our sweet baby boy did not make it.

Despite an incredible fight and the best possible care, his little body had been through too much. He was deeply loved and will always be our baby.

My baby boy is fighting for his life.

He’s less than a year old, just a puppy, and he means absolutely everything to me. On Thursday, a horrible accident happened, he was stabbed in the throat by a stick. What should have been a normal day turned into our worst nightmare.

Since then, he’s been in and out of the emergency hospital. He had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the foreign object from his neck and to drain the fluid that had built up around his throat and chest. During surgery, his heart stopped. The veterinary team performed CPR and were able to bring him back. Losing him in that moment (even briefly) was devastating, and I’m beyond grateful he’s still here fighting.

Right now, he is incredibly weak. He’s in the ICU and on a ventilator, and doctors expect him to remain there as they monitor him around the clock. They had to open his sternum to drain and clean out fluid, and his little body has been through more than any puppy should ever have to endure. Despite everything, he’s still fighting. He is such a strong boy.

My fiancé and I are emotionally wrecked. Watching our baby suffer and not knowing what each hour will bring has been unbearable. He’s not “just a dog” to us, he’s our family, our baby, our world. The thought of losing him is unimaginable.

The medical costs have added up very quickly due to the emergency surgery, ICU care, ventilator support, and ongoing treatment. We are doing everything we possibly can to give him a chance to heal and come home where he belongs.
