Arcane, my daughter’s 13 year old cat, has been through a lot of health scares. He miraculously pulled through a terrifying pyothorax issue a couple of years ago when vets did not believe he could. He has lived healthily for 13 years with the potential for urinary crystals, and has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and they are still working on getting the right treatment and diet to even out his blood glucose levels and keep him healthy.

Today, my daughter noticed blood in Arcane’s urine and bladder leakage. We tried to get him in to our regular vet, but they were understaffed and could not take him today and said he really did need to be seen immediately. None of the urgent care vets had available spots so they had to go to Poulsbo Animal Emergency and Specialty Center.

Due to Arcane’s history of urinary crystals and diabetes, the ER vet needs to do a lot of extra ketone and other tests, urinalyses, and blood draws as well as stabilizing him with subq fluids and getting him right onto some antibiotics.

The cost is going to be over $1300, and unfortunately my daughter only has a part time job right now and her savings is gone. I have been covering the prescription food and diabetes meds and extra checkups for him but this big bill is more than I can comfortably cover on top of the rest.
