April will have surgery on May 8th. If things go well she will have at least a two month recovery period with no work.

Update 4/20/26

April’s latest infection ha a stalled her return to work. She was initially scheduled to try to return to work for few weeks while awaiting surgery but now is physically unable to stick to that plan. Many have reached out again asking how to help so I am sharing this again.

UPDATE: As April’s testing has continued over past two months we received a diagnosis none of us wanted to hear this week. April has been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. She will begin treatment as quickly as possible over the next six weeks. While she is doing a treatment which should allow her to work some, her hours are going to be greatly reduced but like a true Sands she will push herself further than she probably should to try support her family.

Many have asked for ways to support her, so here are a few ideas…we are trying to limit the visitors to her home as she will be exposed to a lot of germs already working with public. If you would like to make freezer meals you can deliver to myself or Tracy and we will ensure they are cooked and delivered for her daily, high protein healthy meals with limited spice are best. Go fund me account will stay active, grocery or food gift cards, well wishes and cheer packages and most importantly PRAYERS! Most people aren’t born lucky enough to know their best friend at birth, but I was lucky enough to have my big sis waiting there to be by my side through everything. Now she needs us to step up and keep her family afloat while doctors figure out what is going on with her.

April is the sole supporter for her household, and financial stress is not what she needs right now while she battles the unknown. She has been in the hospital since Thursday night with one surgery done and possibly more to come. She will miss at least a week of work this week and many more in the months to come.

April is battling an unknown infection in her body and other health conditions, which we are waiting for more tests to know for sure the extent.
