My name is April, and for the past year and a half, I have been stranded in Nashville, Tennessee with no family or friends nearby. After leaving a sober living house, I worked hard to get a job and move into transitional housing. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with COPD, and since coming to Nashville, I have had to go to the hospital at least 30 times due to respiratory distress. The frequent COPD flare-ups, work absences, and a stressful work environment led to me losing my job about three weeks ago. Just two days ago, my transitional housing landlord told me he would be shutting off the electricity to my room today, December 24th, 2025.

Three years ago, I left Louisiana after losing my home to Hurricane Ida. My mother passed away a month later, and within a year, my father also passed away. The family I had always known was suddenly gone. Over the past year, I have been able to reconnect with my sister and my son. My sister has offered me a place to stay so I can return home, get better medical care, and apply for disability. I am about to be back on the streets, and having been in that position before, I know how difficult and uncertain that road can be. I am worried about what the future holds, but I am hopeful for a fresh start.

The funds raised will help me purchase a bus ticket from Nashville to Baton Rouge, where I can reunite with my sister and son. This support will give me a safe place to stay, access to the medical care I need, and the chance to rebuild my life in a supportive environment.
