April Maple is my 9-year-old pitbull, and she is truly the sweetest soul you could ever meet. A few weeks ago, we received heartbreaking news: April Maple has cancer in her lungs. The tumor is so large and positioned so dangerously—pressed tightly against her heart and airways—that surgery isn’t an option. Hearing that was devastating. The mass is one of the biggest her veterinarian has ever seen, and it’s causing her lungs to partially collapse. April Maple has lost a lot of weight, and she now wheezes just trying to breathe. We started her on steroids, which have helped her get a little relief and may be slowing the tumor’s growth, but it’s only a temporary solution.
Even through all of this, April Maple still greets every morning with a wagging tail and the gentle, loving spirit she’s always had. She has so little energy, yet she still tries to brighten everyone’s day—kissing hands, leaning in for cuddles, and showing the same goofy affection she’s had since she was a puppy. Next week, she begins a critical round of radiation therapy: four treatments in four days, each requiring anesthesia. It’s scary, but her doctor is hopeful. They’ve seen other dogs respond well, and we’re clinging to that hope with everything we have. Unfortunately, the cost of her care is overwhelming. She needs repeated CT scans to ensure the radiation targets only the tumor and avoids her vital organs. Add in x-rays, medications, anesthesia, and follow-up appointments, and the bills have quickly become more than we can manage alone.
I’m reaching out because I want to give April Maple the best possible chance—to help her breathe comfortably again, to ease her pain, and to give her more time with her family who loves her so deeply. Every donation will go directly toward her radiation treatments, imaging, medications, and ongoing care. Thank you, truly, for taking the time to read April Maple’s story. Your support—whether through donations or simply sharing this page—means the world to us. It gives us hope, and it gives April Maple a fighting chance.
