My name is Tracy and I'm fundraising for my very close friend April.

My lifelong friend April moved from New York to Arizona several years ago for Michael’s health, leaving behind family, friends, and the community they had built over decades. It was a move made out of love — something that has always defined their life together.

Over a year ago, April was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer. She fought courageously through treatment and was blessed with the moment we had all prayed for — ringing the bell and hearing the words “cancer free.” It felt like hope restored.

But during a recent trip back to New York for her nephew’s wedding, April began experiencing significant back pain. Once home in Arizona, she sought medical answers. What followed was devastating: the cancer had returned and had spread.

Despite further treatment, April was recently told there is nothing more that can be done. The cancer is now throughout her bones, in her lungs, and in other areas of her body. She can no longer care for herself and now requires constant assistance.

April and her husband, Michael, have been together for 46 years and will celebrate 40 years of marriage this May. They have two beautiful sons — Michael (28) and Christopher (26) — who have been their pride and joy.

April is now in home hospice, being kept as comfortable as possible, with hospice support visiting twice a week. However, the majority of her care falls on Michael. He continues to work from home while serving as her full-time, 24/7 caregiver. He is her sole caretaker, managing medications, comfort, and daily needs — sleeping only when he can. The emotional and physical strain is overwhelming.

Their family and friends — or as April lovingly calls them, “Framily” — are primarily in New York. While loved ones are flying in and taking turns to help, it is not a constant or sustainable support system.

This family urgently needs help.

They are in need of substantial medical supplies, and they must hire daytime nursing care Monday through Friday — a cost not covered by insurance. The financial burden is significant, and what they need most right now is relief from that stress so they can focus entirely on April and the precious time they have left together.
