Hello! We are so excited to announce that after nearly 10 long months of searching without luck, our special pup Apollo was finally approved for a prosthetic!
We adopted Apollo, our blind tripod puppy in January of this year. He was born with both of these handicaps as a result of irresponsible breeding (2 of his siblings were also born without eyes). We knew he’d need a mobility aide of some kind as a result of his poor posture, but weren’t anticipating how difficult it would be to find a solution for him. The lack of elbow joint in his underdeveloped leg made him ineligible for a traditional partial limb prosthetic, and he obviously didn’t qualify for a full limb prosthetic, so we found ourselves stuck for many months searching and attempting many failed at-home solutions. Thankfully 3D Pets, a leading pet prosthetic manufacturer, revisited his file and was able to recommend a suspended partial limb prosthetic, which requires both a custom peg leg and a vest to suspend it from.
Our goal is to raise $2000 to cover the cost of the prosthetic, and if we’re fortunate enough to exceed this dollar amount, funds will be put towards physical therapy appointments, chiropractic appointments, and other medical expenses for him (he is on a prescription probiotic and will likely require a prescription medication for his joints in the future).
We are so appreciative of any help from our friends, family and community that knows and loves Apollo!
For those who haven’t met Apollo yet: he doesn’t let his handicaps get him down! He remains the sweetest, most loving pile of mush you’ve ever met. He is truly a special dog in every way. We hope one day to have him evaluated as a therapy dog so that he can visit kids and adults alike that may share similar handicaps!
