[PT]

Our dear Apollo is facing the biggest fight of his life. Help him recover from the recent surgery he was submitted to and help us with providing all the care he deserves! [ENG]

-- PT & ENG texts below --

Durante a cirurgia, o cirurgião localizou o bloqueio no intestino e removeu-o.

-- English Translation --

Apollo is a 6-year old American Staffordshire Terrier, and ever since he arrived at our home at just 45 days old, he changed our lives for the better.
He's not just a part of our family, he's our best friend and the love and dedication we have for him knows no limits, because despite his visibly large build and strength, he's a very gentle dog with a big heart, who just wants cuddles, lots of food and some fun, but his favourite past time is to nap.
He loves receiving guests at home and his genuine euphoria reveals the love he feels for everyone that cares for him - afterall, everyone can be a new friend for him to shower with affection.
As such, everyone loves him, from family, friends and neighbours, to doctors, nurses and assistants... because everyone that knows him also knows how impossible it is not to love him and his presence, which always leaves his lovely and empathetic touch, wherever he goes.
He's greatly important to our family, and as such, our lives without him lose any meaning. A home without him feels empty, devoid of joy and excitement, while simultaneously lacking all tranquility, tenderness and love to share.

Back in May of 2024, Apollo began having gastrointestinal problems, such as vomiting and traces of bleeding in his diarrhea. Fast-forwarding to October of 2024, and after several attempts with the goal of trying to understand what afflicted him, Apollo was diagnosed with colitis. Between several crises and cortisone cycles, we were attempting to circumvent his condition.
On the 5th of October of 2025, early in the morning and without notice, Apollo began fighting for his life. It all began at around 6 am, when he began having persistent vomiting episodes.
By around 5 pm, we resorted to the urgent care of a clinic in Abrantes, in our area of residence, as we truly believed it was solely another colitis-related crisis. He was drawn fluids and took antiemetic medication to put an end to the vomiting, but unfortunately the situation persisted. The following day, we returned to the exact same clinic, and by around 2 pm, he was once given the same treatment again.
Apollo couldn't eat nor drink, was prostrated and trembling, and on the morning of the 7th of October, by roughly 1 am, his situation worsened with subsequent vomiting.
At that point, we decided to take him urgently to Coimbra Pet Hospital, where we arrived by around 2:30 am. As soon as we arrived, we had 2 medical professionals awaiting us who immediately began examining Apollo... he went through several analyses, X-ray exams, ultrasounds and, subsequently, a Barium X-ray.
In the aftermath of these exams, the diagnosis left us speechless. Apollo was suffering from an intestinal blockage.
Furthermore, both his stomach and pancreas were very inflammated and several of his intestinal loops were both very dilated and clogged.

The team decided the best course of action was to undergo a laparotomy, a surgical procedure where they opened his abdomen to observe all his organs and detect the cause of his obstruction.
On the 8th of October, by around 11 am, Apollo was sedated and taken for surgery. These were the most distressing moments of our lives, but by 1 pm we finally received an update.
During the procedure, the surgeon located the blockage in his intestine and removed it. However, we were taken aback when we were told it was a piece of black rubber, which we quickly identified as part of a Kong Extreme toy of Apollo's, which he must've swallowed without us taking notice.
During the surgery, he underwent several biopsies, due to his history of a potential colitis.
Since his entire digestive system was severely inflammated, Apollo ended up developing pancreatitis after surgery and had to be hospitalized for 8 days.
Each day, we drove 240km to visit Apollo and give him all the cuddles in the world, for all we wanted the most was for him to recover swiftly, to feel our presence and know he was never alone.
These were days full of distress, but also hope, for the entire hospital staff was composed of amazing medical professionals and excellent human beings, something we hadn't witnessed in a long time.
In each and every visit, we felt the anxiety and sadness of not being able to bring him with us, but emotion and hope above all, for when he saw us and felt our scent and our care, he'd wiggle his tail and gather even more of his strength to recover.
Between hospitalization, surgeries, exams, treatments and trips, this has been a very expensive venture for us.
On the 20th of October, we returned to the hospital to take a look at Apollo's suture - in the meantime, the biopsy results had returned.
Unfortunately, the results had told us Apollo had an IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), a chronic condition that requires immense care, especially regarding his diet. At the hospital, the team proposed elaborating an environmental allergy panel, as well as a food allergy panel, as these results would allow us to draw up a more adequate meal plan for Apollo and avoid further problems!
So far, all expenses have already surpassed 2500€, and we're still unaware of the type of following up Apollo will require. As such, we've come here to humbly request your help.
Our most important goal is to help Apollo with making it through this chapter, ensure he has everything to fully recover, return to his normal life and be the happy, soft, attentive and sleepy dog we've always known him as.
We all want to see him running, playing, barking and having some great naps on the couch once again.
Any and all help is important to Apollo, whether it be financial or by sharing his story with friends and relatives.
Apollo has already gone through so much, but he's a true warrior and we wholeheartedly believe that, with everyone's help and care, he will return comfortable, happy and fill our home with love once again. We've attached some photos we deem important, including the receipts from the procedures (unfortunately, one of the receipts is incomplete, as it's 4 pages and we're unable to attach any further files).
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everyone that is reading this message, to those who believe and can contribute in any capacity to help our dearest Apollo!
Our house will only truly feel like a home and feel joy once more once we see him happy, relaxed and healthy again.

Warm regards from Apollo's Family!
