Support a Dedicated Dog Trainer Facing Unjust Online Backlash

This fundraiser was created by someone who knows and supports a highly experienced and compassionate trainer named Aolanis, who is currently enduring severe online harassment, reputational damage, and emotional trauma following the tragic and sudden death of a dog she had been caring for over the course of several months—Scarlett, a complex and reactive rescue from Bunny’s Buddies.

Aolanis has spent her career helping dogs who need it most—those with behavioral challenges, medical issues, or histories of neglect. She is known by clients, colleagues, and the dogs themselves as calm, consistent, and endlessly compassionate. The goal of this GoFundMe is to help Aolanis recover from the emotional, legal, and reputational consequences of a situation that has been misrepresented publicly, and to share the fuller context behind the events.

Scarlett’s Journey

Scarlett, a German Shepherd, had a long history of behavioral reactivity and had already been through at least three different trainers due to her level of aggression and difficulty. Eventually, Bunny’s Buddies—a rescue organization—partnered with KoruK9, a professional training company, and assigned Scarlett to Aolanis due to her experience in behavioral rehabilitation.

Amanda Jo Swulius, the founder of Bunny’s Buddies, personally approved the match and reportedly referred to Aolanis as “the perfect match” for Scarlett.

The original board-and-train program lasted from November 2 to November 23, 2024. Once the program was complete, Aolanis volunteered to continue caring for Scarlett indefinitely, unpaid and without a formal foster agreement, until a suitable adoptive home could be found.

During the following seven months, no adoption listings were posted by the rescue, and no adopters were matched. Despite this, Aolanis continued to care for Scarlett in her home, providing structure, enrichment, training, and medical support—all without compensation, aside from food provided occasionally by the rescue.

The Sudden and Traumatic Loss of Scarlett

On June 4, 2025, Aolanis returned home to discover Scarlett unresponsive in her kennel. Her body was still warm and pliable, and there were no visible signs of injury or trauma.

In an attempt to assess and resuscitate her, Aolanis opened the kennel and lifted Scarlett into her arms—at which point a large volume of bodily fluids, consistent with postmortem purge, was released onto her clothing, arms, and the floor. This deeply traumatic experience occurred within a matter of minutes and left her in complete shock.

Aolanis immediately contacted Amanda Jo Swulius, the rescue’s founder, and explained what had happened. Still in a state of emotional distress, she brought Scarlett’s body to Animal Control so it could be held securely and processed in accordance with legal procedures.

On June 5, a third party retrieved the body for necropsy. However, the necropsy was not reportedly performed until five days later, which is significant, as delays in necropsy can contribute to decomposition-related changes that interfere with results—including the presence of internal fluid accumulation, bloating, and altered organ weights.

It’s important to note that a significant amount of weight loss after death is expected in many cases, particularly when:
• Internal fluids are purged postmortem (as occurred when Aolanis lifted the body)
• Decomposition begins (especially if the necropsy is delayed several days)
• Gastrointestinal contents and moisture are lost
• Organs begin to shrink or collapse as tissues break down

These well-documented physiological changes can account for a significant shift in weight and do not necessarily indicate neglect or abuse.

Online Backlash and Harassment

Despite a lack of any formal findings of abuse or negligence—and despite the necropsy being described as “neutral and inconclusive”—a wave of social media posts quickly framed Aolanis as abusive, leading to a torrent of public outrage and misinformation.

These posts have caused:
• Harassment through anonymous burner accounts
• Doxxing and release of personal information
• Direct threats to her safety and livelihood
• Unsolicited contact with her clients, employers, and family
• Defamation and emotional trauma

Some posts have shared edited or selectively framed information, with speculation presented as fact. The public narrative has since gone viral—stripping Aolanis of the opportunity to defend herself with accuracy and nuance.

Who Aolanis Really Is

Aolanis has worked in:
• Emergency veterinary medicine
• Canine behavior and aggression rehabilitation
• Advanced obedience and rehoming support for hard-to-place dogs

She has:
• Rehabilitated dozens of dogs labeled “unadoptable”
• Paid out of pocket to care for animals in limbo
• Shared video footage, documentation, and an unpublished “Adopt Me” video for Scarlett

Her training practices are transparent, documented, and praised by clients and colleagues alike. The dogs in her care have thrived—emotionally and behaviorally.

Why This Fundraiser Exists

This fundraiser is about more than financial relief—it is about justice and truth.

The internet can be a powerful tool, but when weaponized through speculation and emotion, it becomes dangerous. A compassionate dog trainer’s life has been shattered by a story that has gone viral without full context.

Funds raised will support:
• Legal consultation and protection
• Mental health care following severe trauma
• Recovery from reputational damage
• Public awareness about the real-world cost of online misinformation

This GoFundMe was created independently by someone who knows Aolanis personally and has seen firsthand the integrity, professionalism, and care she brings to every animal she works with.

✊ Stand for Truth. Stand with Aolanis.

Rescue workers, trainers, and behavioral specialists pour their hearts into saving lives. They should be met with compassion—not condemnation—when tragedy strikes, especially in the absence of clear, confirmed wrongdoing.

Let’s fight for due process, dignity, and truth—not digital mob justice.
Let’s support justice for Aolanis.
