Hi all! I’m asking for your help on behalf of my dear friend, Bec, protector of cats, rats, mice, and any creature in need of help. Her cat Anya is in urgent need of an eye removal to prevent cancer from spreading.

As many of you know, Bec works tirelessly (and often, unpaid) to save animals and protect our environment. She’s at the forefront of removing poison from your neighborhoods to create peaceful coexistence with our rodent friends, which in turn benefits your outdoor cats and bird friends who hunt rodents.

As many of us also know, Bec has fallen on hard times completely out of her control (like many other scientists doing the good work). She need our help right now to fund Anya’s surgery.

About Anya:

Bec became the human companion to Anya back in 2013, in Australia where both are from! Anya is named after the great demon from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

After Bec graduated with a PhD, she got a postdoc at the Smithsonian in animal conservation, and Anya soon followed with her brother Finn (everyone’s favorite chonky boy). Anya has been with Bec through everything, the tumultuous moments of the past year. Anya has a heart of gold, but will let you know if you’ve crossed the boundary (aka me, dog person).

Anya’s condition is called iris melanosis (like melanoma). One eye is being removed and the other eye is having iris laser surgery to remove another pigment freckle. And that eye’s eyelid has a mass that will be removed as well. The ramifications of not taking the eye out is that the cancer spread all over her body (and quite rapidly at that).

She is scheduled for surgery on Thursday! Please help in anyway you can. And if it’s any comfort, Bec already has a blind cat, Galaxy, that had to have both his eyes removed as a kitten (I am his biggest fan, btw). She absolutely knows how to take care of animals that are disabled! In fact, she always takes in animals that are disabled, and always bears the cost of it.
