My name is Antwon, and I am a full-time Computer Science major pursuing a career in cybersecurity. I am raising $5,000 to help cover my tuition so I can continue my education and remain enrolled at Northern Illinois University.
This past year has been one of the most difficult periods of my life. In July of last year, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Since his diagnosis, he has been unable to work or contribute financially toward my education. My mother, who has always done everything she can for our family, is currently facing financial hardship and is not in a position to help with tuition. As a result, I am paying for school entirely on my own while trying to remain focused, motivated, and resilient.
Despite these challenges, I have not given up. I continue to show up for my education and my community because service and leadership are deeply important to me. At NIU, I serve on the executive board of the Black Male Initiative, am a member of the Black Business Student Association, and have participated in campus service efforts such as Feed My Starving Children, the Denim Day Walk, and campus tours. I am also regarded as a campus leader by the Center for Black Studies. Even during personal hardship, I believe in being present and contributing positively to the spaces I am part of.
I chose to pursue computer science and cybersecurity because I want to protect people, systems, and communities in a digital world that grows more vulnerable each day. Cybersecurity is a field where Black men remain significantly underrepresented, and I am determined to be part of the change. My goal is not only to build a successful career but to represent resilience and open doors for others who come from similar circumstances.
Right now, the financial pressure of tuition, living expenses, and family responsibilities is overwhelming. Tuition deadlines do not pause for illness or hardship, and the fear of being forced to step away from school is real. This fundraiser would help relieve that pressure and allow me to focus on learning, growth, and long-term stability rather than survival.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps me stay on track toward graduation and a future rooted in purpose and impact. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser also makes a meaningful difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me during one of the hardest chapters of my life. Your support is not just helping me pay tuition. It is helping me keep my future alive.
