My daughter Antionette is just 10 months old and has already faced more than most people do in a lifetime. Recently, while she was crawling, she was attacked by a dog. The injuries were severe—she suffered two skull fractures, lost spinal fluid from her head, and needed plastic surgery on her eye. Surgeons even had to move a piece of bone off her brain. After a long hospital stay, she is finally coming home, but her recovery is far from over.
At the hospital, Antionette had a safe crib to sleep in, but at home, all I have is a playpen. With her large incision from brain surgery, lifting her from the ground is a safety concern, and the playpen’s mesh sides don’t offer the stability she needs. A sturdy crib with bars would make it much safer and easier for me to care for her as she heals. I am a single mom working in fast food, and I need to stay home with her for the next few weeks, which makes money even tighter than usual.
On top of that, Antionette needs to travel 200 miles three times a week to see two different neurologists, a plastic surgeon, and an eye doctor, as well as receive antibiotic treatments. The costs of travel and basic needs are overwhelming. Antionette is a beautiful blessing to this world, and she’s been through so much already. I just want to keep her safe and give her the best chance at healing. Any support will help us get through this difficult time and ensure she has what she needs to recover.
