Hello all, my name is Antionette Smith-Thompson and my health has suddenly taken a very serious turn.

Recently, I was diagnosed with a serious condition affecting the place where my skull and spine meet (the cranio-cervical junction). The doctors explained that I was born with a structural problem in this area, and over time it has started to severely affect my brain stem, spinal cord, and nerves.

Because of this; my brain stem and spinal cord are being compressed (squeezed).

The fluid that is supposed to flow around my brain and spine is being blocked. This is causing severe pain, nerve symptoms, and problems with basic body functions.

One of the nerves that has been affected is my vagus nerve, which helps control my voice, breathing, and swallowing. The damage to this nerve has already caused me to lose my voice, and at times my breathing becomes irregular and difficult. I also live with intense daily pain in my head, neck, back, and body that regular pain medication can’t properly control.

The doctors have told me and my family that this is not a simple problem and it will not get better on its own. To relieve the pressure on my brain stem and spinal cord and to prevent things from getting worse, I urgently need a surgery called: Cranio-Cervical Decompression Surgery.

The surgeons will remove or reshape a small part of the bone at the base of my skull and upper spine as this creates more space for the brain stem and spinal cord. It will allow the

brain and spinal fluid to flow properly again, and also reduce the pressure on important nerves like the vagus nerve. This will help relieve my pain and prevent further nerve damage, breathing problems, and other complications.

Unfortunately, this type of surgery, the hospital stay, tests, medications, and after-care are very expensive, and our family simply cannot afford it on our own. I am doing everything I can, but it’s not enough to cover what I will need for this procedure.

I am seeking help to cover the cost of my Cranio-Cervical Decompression Surgery, cover hospital and ICU costs; along with support for my recovery and rehabilitation after surgery.
