Last night (03/22/2021), my father (Phuong Tran) passed away. He was my best friend and was always supportive in everything I wanted to do in life.
He was a stay-at-home dad, since his health had been deteriorating for the past few years. He suffered from numerous health conditions, such as anemia, diabetes, and heart failure. He relied on a walker to get around the house and stopped leaving the house after a car accident that happened a few years ago, which triggered his heart problems to worsen. Because of this, my mother had to take the role of being the breadwinner for our family. However, with my father's sudden passing, my mother and I are having a hard time paying for my father's funeral expenses.
Currently, my mother works as a nail technician and I am a full-time undergraduate student at Columbia University. We are now a family of two and are from a first-generation, low-income (FGLI) immigrant background. At this time, we are financially struggling to cover all of our expenses-- rent, tuition, and now, my father's funeral costs.
My mother and I visited the funeral home today and are planning to schedule my father's funeral for next week (Wednesday), but all of the costs totaled to around $10,000, which needs to be paid in-full by the day of the event. I am making this GoFundMe to help relieve my mom from some of the financial burdens that we are facing right now.
