Help Ansleigh get well!

Donation protected

This is Ansleigh. She is the 11 year old daughter of Pastor and Mrs. Kraig Spivey of Greensboro, NC. In March 2020, Ansleigh, after a few weeks of sickness, started having allergic reactions to foods that she had eaten for years. Innocuous food and household items caused her to break out in hives constantly. She saw doctors six times in six months and was diagnosed with everything from a bruised sternum to acid reflux. During those months, Ansleigh gave up most of her favorite foods, face wash, perfume, and more. Her mom was able to find one hand soap, body wash, and toothpaste that did not cause an allergic reaction. In August, a prominent allergist accepted Ansleigh as a patient. He diagnosed that her immune system was not working properly. Later, they were able to narrow the diagnosis. Ansleigh was allergic to preservatives and nitrates. He put Ansleigh on a regimen of meds that he had successfully used with other patients, hoping for a “reset” of her immune system. She is still under that doctor’s care.

In early December, Ansleigh had a severe reaction to a hand soap, that she used without thinking, while washing her hands at church. (She carries her safe hand soap with her at all times.). Within minutes, her life was in danger. Ultimately, an Epi-pen had to be used. It was a turning point in her care, because it meant an Epi-pen had to be wherever Ansleigh was at all times.

In mid February of 2021, Ansleigh’s safe foods started causing reactions. The reaction was never hives, but a difficulty in breathing. On February 19, she drank tap water from a styrofoam cup and her body reacted. It was scary to the family.

A friend called a doctor in South Carolina that had treated her for severe allergies a few years ago. He agreed to talk to the family. Since the initial phone appointment, he has agreed to take Ansleigh as a patient. He has ordered tests to be done locally and then he will see her a week or so later in South Carolina. He is confident that he can help her.

If you were to ask the Spiveys, they would tell you that God has been good, even during this difficult year. They are trusting that the Lord will heal Ansleigh and will use this experience to help others.

I am her great aunt and have felt very compelled to reach out to others in order to help this family who selflessly give to others   Please share this with college classmates .
