Hi, my name is AnnMarie and I’m reaching out with an exciting opportunity that has come my way. Growing up on the coast, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean, wanting to know more. While I am currently pursuing a degree in aquatic biology at UC Santa Barbara, my fascination in marine ecosystems and biodiversity has only grown since I was a child. That is why I am excited to share that I've been accepted into the Marine Biology and Terrestrial Ecology Program — a once in a lifetime opportunity to study abroad at the University of Queensland in Australia!
Australia is home to one of the world’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems, making it the perfect place to deepen my knowledge and pursue my career in marine biology.
One of UQ’s research locations I will have the honor of studying at is Heron Island, famous for its spectacular coral reef, extraordinary aquatic life, migrating whales, and nesting turtles. The Heron Island Research Station is the first marine research station established on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and in an area of significant environmental value. The station supports modern scientific and environmental research with six boats, snorkel and SCUBA equipment, and experienced marine research staff.
Studying abroad in Australia will allow me to:
* Learn directly from marine scientists and researchers
* Participate in hands-on fieldwork in places like the Great Barrier Reef
* Build real-world skills in conservation, marine ecology, and sustainable ocean practices
If you would like to support my studies while abroad, your contribution to my future would be greatly appreciated. This goal covers the extra cost to study abroad other than the tuition costs I’d normally pay to attend UCSB. Your support will go towards helping me fund things including my housing, travel, and program fees, and will help make this experience a reality for me. Thank you for the continuous encouragement and helping to bring me closer to my dream.
I appreciate you for being part of this journey with me!
With gratitude,
AnnMarie
