Help Annie Wade Get a Fitted Wheelchair

Donation protected
My daughter, Annie Wade, is 28 years old and has a condition called Avascular Necrosis in both of her knees,  femur, tibia and left hip as a complication from Lupus that has basically rendered her housebound.  Avascular Necrosis is very painful, and because of the fragile nature of her bones, she shouldn't walk or put weight on these compromised areas. After visiting two separate Orthopedic surgeons, they determined that because of the amount of dead bone, surgery is not an option. Even a total knee replacement will not solve the issue, and that might not happen for many years.  Basically, she was told to plan her life around her condition and manage her pain the best she can. Annie has already had to change career plans twice due to Lupus, but has always stayed positive and optimistic.  Annie has an artistic soul, and is working on her Master's degree in User Experience Design so that she can mostly work from a computer at home.

Insurance provided her with a wheelchair, but it is a one-size fits all wheelchair that is very heavy (around 40 lbs.) and cumbersome to get in and out of her car.  During her last semester at Georgia State, fellow students had to volunteer to push her to class because pushing herself landed her in the ER with Costochondritis in her chest.  An ultralight wheelchair would be fitted to her small frame, and would provide her the independence that she desperately needs. It would be much easier to maneuver and would allow her to get it in and out of the car by herself and provide her with independence and the opportunity to go places once again. The ultralights are very expensive (around $2,000). Any help would be appreciated and would give Annie the tools she needs  to meet her career goals and spend time with family and friends. Check out her video that is posted here to hear Annie tell how a lack of a wheelchair has impacted her life.
