My name is Anne Ross. Writing this is very embarrassing because, as a former social worker, I’ve always been the one to help others. Now, at age 65, I’m in need of help myself. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
This story involves myself and my beloved cats Yanni and Denny. From 2014 to 2018, Yanni, Denny and I socialized over 35 rescued foster cats and kittens for Los Angeles area rescues. Yanni and I also volunteered as a Registered Therapy Cat Team in nursing homes. He is now retired. However, I’m still working part-time. Recently, with your help, we all moved from California to Arizona, where everything is less expensive
A BIT ABOUT ME
From 2020 to 2022, I worked in unemployment claim filing and auditing for the government. If you applied for unemployment in California during the pandemic, I may have been the person who released your hard-earned benefits! In 2022, I developed neurological stress-related issues and had to resign. I can no longer work full time due to diagnosed memory problems as well as severe auditory and visual processing issues.
HOW MY CATS HELP ME COPE
Yanni and Denny are my official Emotional Support Animals. Denny sits on the back of my chair or in my lap while I work from home. If I get stressed, overwhelmed or upset, He gets between me and the computer. Yanni sleeps next to me to provide support through the night when times are rough. And times are really rough right now.
MY CURRENT SITUATION
Three weeks ago, with your help, Yanni, Denny and I moved to an apartment in Tucson-saving $575/month in rent. I’m still working part time as a remote ebay lister for $17/hour. I now have a second part-time job as a pet sitter -but I’m required to train for three weeks before I can start working regularly.
I have applied for Medicaid (federal health insurance) and SNAP (food stamps). But the wait time for applications to be processed is three months or more. During that time, I will be paying out of pocket for health care and medications. One of these medications makes it possible for me to work. I have one week before my meds run out.
HOW WILL DONATIONS BE USED?
Both Yanni and Denny, who were rescued from high kill shelters, have allergies requiring special food. I am struggling to pay for the food they need. Your donations will go toward cat food as well as my medications and any other health care expenses until I am back on my feet.
I realize that times are hard right now for many of us. Be assured that no contribution is too small or too big. If you’re unable to donate, you can still help by sharing my gofundme on Facebook and other platforms. Prayers are also appreciated, as I believe they can work miracles.
I’ve always believed in the idea of paying it forward. What goes around, comes around--isn't that what life is all about? Your generosity will help me care for Yanni and Denny until I can pay it forward in Tucson... Paws crossed!
Peace and blessings to you all,
Anne, Yanni, and Denny
PURR. LOVE. HEAL.
