My name is Anne Ross. Writing this is very embarrassing because, as a former social worker, I’ve always been the one to help others. Now, at age 65, I’m in need of help myself. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
This story involves myself and my beloved cats Yanni and Denny. From 2014 to 2018, Yanni, Denny and I socialized over 35 rescued foster cats and kittens for Los Angeles area rescues. Yanni and I also volunteered as a Registered Therapy Cat Team in nursing homes. He is now retired. However, I’m still working part-time.
A BIT ABOUT ME
From 2020 to 2022, I worked in unemployment claim filing and auditing for the government. If you applied for unemployment in California during the pandemic, I may have been the person who released your hard-earned benefits! In 2022, I developed neurological stress-related issues and had to resign. I can no longer work full time due to diagnosed memory problems as well as severe auditory and visual processing issues.
HOW MY CATS HELP ME COPE
Yanni and Denny each have each volunteered for different jobs as my official Emotional Support Animals. Denny sits on the back of my chair or in my lap while I work from home. He gets between me and the computer if I get stressed, overwhelmed or upset. Yanni sleeps next to me to provide support through the night when times are rough. And times are really rough right now.
MY CURRENT SITUATION
I’m working part time as an ebay lister for $17/hour. Recently, my hours were cut to under 20 hrs/week. As a result, my income is about $1292/month while my rent is $1423/month. My savings are nearly gone. I am currently planning a move to a more affordable apartment in Tucson, Arizona, where the rent is only $875/month but I need help getting there.
HOW WILL DONATIONS BE USED?
Both Yanni and Denny, who were rescued from high kill shelters, have allergies requiring special food. I am struggling to pay for the food they need. Your donations will go toward cat food, rent and moving costs so I can keep a roof over our heads.
I realize that times are hard right now for many of us. Be assured that no contribution is too small. If you’re unable to donate, you can still help by sharing my gofundme on Facebook and other platforms.
I’ve always believed in the idea of paying it forward. What goes around, comes around--isn't that what life is all about? Your generosity will help me care for Yanni and Denny until I can pay it forward in Tucson by donating plasma... Paws crossed!
Peace and blessings to you all,
Anne, Yanni, and Denny
PURR. LOVE. HEAL.
